07/25/2017 - It Was Heartbreaking To See Her Go...I Just Hope She Gets Baptized

Well another one gone. I can't believe the time. Today is a special day, it is exactly 6 months since I left. So happy birthday to me! But actually we had a really good week. It was another bitter sweet one.
07/23/2017 - Kathy, our member contact, Elder Ollis, Elder Wiwchar, and Hue

One of my favorite members is moving saturday. So we worked hard all week and have seen all sorts of tender mercies. But sunday we had to say goodbye to our Vietnamese investigator, Hue. It was so sad. We met with her saturday and taught the restoration. And she seemed like she wanted this gospel. It was heartbreaking to see her go. But we talked about the church there and our fellowshipper is a convert from Vietnam. So they talked and Hue wants to go to the church in Vietnam, and she wants missionaries there. I was incredibly happy and sad. I was so grateful that we could find her, and so grateful for being able to help grow a newer mission. Finding a convert in Vietnam. It was especially sad because she emailed both me and Elder Wiwchar at 2 in the morning haha. I just hope she gets baptized. As for that our ward has been odd lately. We don't have hardly any meals so we had to buy a ton of food today to last the week. And we have been struggling to meet with many of them. But Sunday night we met with our WML (Ward Mission Leader), Bro Wenzel. He is the best, and we talked about how these next few weeks we are going to set some new goals, which is exciting.

One personal goal is that I have really been trying to bring the spirit and let it guide us to
where we need to be. I felt I have always struggled with that. And we had a cool experience that I would like to share. Last night we were tracting, one of the last things for the day. So kinda hard. Anyway, we were trying to hit our daily contacted number and the street was rough. We picked a bum street where most of the people were not friendly. Well the whole time I was just praying that we would be able to be guided to hit our numbers and so we could go in. Well I have never quite experienced it before, but we were going to finish the street and I just felt we should flip around. Sure enough I do and speed up another street. Elder Wiwchar is wondering what in the world I was doing but I pick a house and we start knocking.  Literally the last house we were going to knock on this kid answers the door. And sure enough we start talking. His name is Lucas and has relatives who are LDS.  His family is catholic and wouldn't like us but his family was gone. So we are going to meet with him next week! But the best part was it was a house right across the street from a member! They watched us and invited us over right after and really wanted to help us. It was really cool. So that’s all for the week!

07/18/2017 - It Is Amazing How Confused She Was, But Brothers and Sisters We Are Not!

Hello from up Norf! So this week was bitter sweet and it flew by. I can't even remember what happened because time is absolutely flying right now. But it was a good week. We contacted tons of people this week and had zone conference! So we got to hear from President Miles! Which is always good. We got TIWI's in our car, so we have some voice yelling at us now, haha not really they aren't too bad. But we have to log into the car before we drive so that is weird. (Note from Elder Ollis' mom: I asked Elder Ollis about this. It is a Teenage Independent Witness system which has a GPS system and alerts the driver if they are driving above the speed limit, etc)

But we did have some sweet success! We met with those turkish guys, last night. And sure enough there were two more of them who seemed interested and wanted to learn more. So we picked them up as new investigators! They keep appearing! It has been hard though because some will be there and others won't. so they aren't all at the same speed for what we teach, but we are trying to work through it. But as for the Bitter, we met with our Vietnamese investigator on Saturday and she came to church but at the end of the lesson she told us she can only meet one more time because she is going home. I was so sad. But I am going to get her address and refer the missionaries in Vietnam so she can get baptized there. And I will have a picture next week with her. Also it was funny at the end of the lesson she said she wants to come to our weddings when we get home. So I hope she can go in the temple! And that was our week!

But I wanted to leave you with a thought. This week we tracted into some crazy lady from another church. She loved what we were doing and after a few minutes she offered a prayer before we left. It was strange to hear another prayer of another faith. And the thing that struck me is how grateful I am to know about our father in heaven. She had no idea who she was praying to as she used words like Father, brother, savior, maker, all interchangably. It is amazing how confused she was. But Brothers and Sisters we are not! We know who our God is, he is our Father. And he loves us. And we know this because Joseph Smith witnessed it!

Love you all and hope you have a good week.

07/11/2017 - A Week of Miracles... AND WAIT THERE IS ONE MORE!!

So this week was full of miracles. First off, stampede is in full effect, everyone is wearing cowboy stuff. It is kinda funny that it is just acceptable for a week or so. It also means there tons of helicopters that fly around with Canadian flags dangling below them. Also there is a fly over ever day with fighter jets. And I had to laugh because they were F-18s. American planes. But GO CANADA!

But this week was honestly so good. It was really cool. Wednesday we dropped by an appointment with a potential investigator we had named Mustafarus. Honestly I didn't think we were going to go in and pick him up. But that changed really quick. He let us in and he was with a friend named Helam. We asked if we could start teaching and he told us to wait because someone else was coming who wanted to hear. And 20 minutes later a man named Kerem shows up. All 3 are from Turkey. Being here only about 3 months and interested in Christianity. So we taught them about prophets and the plan of salvation. And one more man, also from Turkey shows up near the end of the lesson and so we teach it again. It was amazing! We picked up 4 new investigators in an hour and a half! Which is such a miracle. It was one of coolest experiences I have witnessed. But it didn't stop there.

We did a mission fast on Friday, all of us were out and talking to people. I was on exchanges and in another area but when I got back Friday night we got a miracle text. We had dropped by a referral and the lady who answered was NOT interested. So we figured it was a bum referral. Not the case. The text said Ian W really wanted to meet with us, and wanted to meet at our church near his house because he heard we dropped by. So we called him and picked him up that Saturday as a new. Ian is probably YSA but he is so prepared. He had tons of questions we answered but we also had an awesome lesson. He told us he grew up atheist but has been drawn towards God. He said he had LDS friends and he always wanted to know what made them so happy and he said he felt he needed something in his life and this was it. (Me and Elder Wiwchar both had flashbacks to those fake MTC investigators.) And near the end of the lesson he asked if he could come to our Sunday service. Sure enough he came and stayed all 3 hours and said he loved it how people were so friendly and it was great. It blew my mind how prepared he was. It was interesting because he said atheists never gather, and he was craving a family or society he could connect with. Basically we already want to baptize him.

But there are more miracles. I laughed Saturday night when we got ANOTHER referral! Mind you we hadn't got one in well over 3 weeks. It is a family of 8 from Romania who are expecting us tomorrow morning. AND WAIT THERE IS ONE MORE! Another referral for a guy who lives in the building next to us. He is trying to quit smoking and really wants the gospel and Christ in his life. We dropped by yesterday and we are hoping to meet him tomorrow. But that has been our week.

Brothers and Sisters, it was full of miracles, but they didn't come from just dumb luck. We haven't stopped working and praying, we were tested but our Savior knows what we need and where those people are. It was amazing this week to see some fruits, but I know they came from continual faith. This week in my personal study I was studying miracles before all this stuff happened, and something I found was in the bible dictionary Miracles are something we absolutely believe in. And interestingly, they are ever present. And when we don't see them, it is because there is a lack of faith. So the moral, brothers and sisters, God loves us. And he absolutely blesses us through our efforts, whether it is hard work or fasting, or both. God is there and he cares. Don't ever forget that!

07/04/2017 - Just Like the Wonderful United States of America, There is Purpose in All Things

Hello everyone! So this week was both fast and slow. So to get right down to it, it was Canada Day on Saturday, July 1st. But it was also the 150th one, so a big deal. Anyway, basically from 4:00 Saturday until now it was kind of a ghost town. No one would really open doors if we tract, no one was home to stop by, so it was a little frustrating. Didn't feel very productive. Honestly Saturday around 8:00 we could have walked right in the middle of the street. No cars. Which was weird because Canadians are not very patriotic. Everyone talked about the fireworks that happened down town but supposedly that was the only show. Didn't even come close to this great day in the USA. But anyway, that slowed down the work quite a bit. And even more so, next week is stampede week. So tons of people go to that because it is like a week long event. But that’s what is been going on. Super excited because we have the car this week and Friday is supposed to get really warm.

As for the work we had some cool experiences. We taught the Plan of Salvation again to our new Vietnamese investigator. And finished it. She was so excited for it. She said it made sense and she asked how she can make it to the Celestial kingdom. Next time we meet we are going to teach Gospel of Jesus Christ and put her on date. So we are super excited for that. We also gave her a BOM in Vietnamese and I have never seen someone so excited for that book. She was so grateful and was so excited to read it. She just hugged it the moment we said it was hers. It was a great experience.

I am so grateful for today. It is the Independence Day of the most true and most free country ever. I was reading in Jesus The Christ yesterday and Talmage talks about our nation.  Brothers and Sisters, it is an inspired nation. I find it interesting that only 40 years after the constitution that Joseph Smith, the prophet of the restoration, saw God the Father and his son Jesus Christ. That is not a coincidence. It is a land of promise and prophesy and was necessary for Christ to build his kingdom. And hasn't it grown?

I would like to bear my testimony to you, that I know our father has a plan for us.  Just like the wonderful United States of America, there is a purpose in all things. We are not alone and we owe so much to those who sacrificed so that we can have the Gospel we have now. Whether it is pioneers, prophets, soldiers and even our own Savior. We are truly blessed. Love you all and hope you enjoy your week!
